And she’ll have fun, fun, fun till her daddy takes the ST away. Isn’t that how the song goes? If not, I am taking the liberty to adapt it because the 2015 Ford Fiesta ST totally deserves it. Don’t tell the Beach Boys. 

When I said I was picking up that little red 2015 Ford Fiesta ST parked right there, everyone had the same reaction: “Oh you’re going to have so much fun.” Either that or “I haven’t driven it yet.” I was pretty confident I was in for a treat because that’s what I enjoy driving the most: agile, nervous, little cars. Plus, I hadn’t touched a manual transmission in over a month, since I had left my own personal car behind to take on my role as a journalist with the difficult, difficult task of testing a different car every week. Someone’s got to do the dirty work. And after a series of automatic transmissions and CVTs, going back to a three-pedal setup felt like I was a junkie getting a free pass to her chemically-induced nirvana. Or should I say mechanically-induced.

2015 Buick Verano: The Anti-Sports Sedan?

Because sometimes you want to drive, and sometimes you just want to get there.

I’ve heard many people question the existence of Buick since 2008. The reply is always “well, they’re big in China, so GM needs them”. Which has always seemed to be a bit of a disservice to Buick. Buick sells more cars than Audi, Acura, and Infiniti, and comes surprisingly close to beating VW. They aren’t doing too badly here. I also hear “Buick doesn’t know what they want to be.” Well, after spending 5 weeks in a 2015 Verano, I’m going to have to disagree. I would say that Buick knows exactly what they are, and they do a pretty good job of being Buick.

2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport – Anything You Do, I Can Do Better. Or Can I?

The good thing about the 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport is that it’s a Land Rover. The bad thing about it is that I drove the Ford Escape the week before. Spoiler alert: the Rover does not win.

There’s something mythical about taking the wheel of a British vehicle. They’re all so elite, elegant and… elementary? (adjective in “el” + Sherlock Holmes reference. That works.) They reign in an exclusive category of their own. They don’t fit in the usual realm of racy “Europeans”; they have a snobbish air about them we are fascinated with. Like the Royal Family of cars. So I felt a little intimidated taking the wheel of the Discovery Sport. I felt like I had gone from “girl next door” to “high profile urban girl”, and that instead of being offered beer at the bar, I’d be receiving a glass of Champagne. Sadly, I also started feeling like a phony in no time, as though my new-found, high-end profile was actually the work of an eminent plastic surgeon. Because, as awesome as the Land Rover Discovery looks and feels, I also find it to be slightly overrated.

2015 Ford C-Max – Go Green or Go Home

Hybrids have gone a long way since their shaky, mass-market beginnings almost 20 years ago. The 2015 Ford C-Max is one of those new age, modern day hybrids, introduced to the American market only three years ago. But let’s take a minute here to appreciate the fact that Ford actually makes good hybrids. Who knew?

Track Quickie: Subaru Impreza XV Crosstrek

Does the XV Crosstrek have any chops on the track? Well, maybe some.

In 2012, the Subaru Impreza got a cousin, a close sister if you will. A tall, do-it-all, stilted machine to fight alongside its car-in-every-way brethren. That car was the XV Crosstrek. You get everything you have in the regular Impreza (all-wheel-drive, hatch, wheels of some sort), but lifted and beefy-lookin’ (and more standard kit)! Like a Japanese Volvo Cross Country.
