Gallery – GM 17th Annual Show & Shine

You like pictures? You like cars? You like pictures of cars? This gallery is for you!

On August 7, GM hosted their 17th annual Show & Shine event at their St. Catharines plant, in Ontario. It was the occasion for GM owners to put their more and less recent piece of automotive history on display. From very humble beginnings, with only seven cars registered, the event gained momentum and this year’s edition received no less than 380 subscriptions. The open air exhibit was also the occasion for the manufacturer to premier the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Camaro on Canadian soil. Here’s a peek at the historical marvels seen at the show.

2015 Buick Verano: The Anti-Sports Sedan?

Because sometimes you want to drive, and sometimes you just want to get there.

I’ve heard many people question the existence of Buick since 2008. The reply is always “well, they’re big in China, so GM needs them”. Which has always seemed to be a bit of a disservice to Buick. Buick sells more cars than Audi, Acura, and Infiniti, and comes surprisingly close to beating VW. They aren’t doing too badly here. I also hear “Buick doesn’t know what they want to be.” Well, after spending 5 weeks in a 2015 Verano, I’m going to have to disagree. I would say that Buick knows exactly what they are, and they do a pretty good job of being Buick.

New 2016 Buick Encore Sport Touring or The Super Bug

Have you ever seen a Buick Encore on the road and realized it looks like a beetle of some sort? Well, I have. And now, the bug gets the sport treatment with the 2016 Buick Encore Sport Touring version.

This bug is getting a turbo! Buick has announced that for 2016, the Encore will take the road to performance and economy thanks to an all-new 1.4-litre, direct-injected, turbocharged engine teamed with a 6-speed automatic transmission and the start and stop technology that we have come to know and love. Or not. Rated at 153 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque, the engine with aluminum cylinder block and head is part of a new family of “small, power-dense engines”, marked by Buick’s promise to crank up the fun factor and keep the fuel economy numbers at a low. Isn’t that the promise every manufacturer makes in 2015 anyway?
